Kelvin Cheung

Born in Canada, raised in Chicago and now based in Dubai, the multi award-winning Chef Kelvin Cheung is a Chinese Canadian who grew up in the kitchen - spending the better part of his childhood training for his life of travelling the world and cooking in kitchens in unfamiliar places. Having worked his way up through the ranks within various restaurants in the US, Canada, & Belgium, Chef Kelvin began his public chef life in India in 2012 as Executive Chef at Ellipsis Mumbai.

Kelvin Cheung is the Chef and Partner at both Jun’s Restaurant and Little Jun’s, both in conjunction with Three Layer Hospitality. At Jun’s, he leads the conceptualization and day-to-day operations, creating new menu items, recipes and developing dishes ensuring variety and quality. Rooted in Cheung’s Chinese heritage, North American upbringing and French training paired with the freshest ingredients from local farms, Kelvin takes his diners on an immersive culinary journey through his Chinese upbringing and life across the world from North America to India. Chef Kelvin is the region's pioneer and proponent of Third Culture Food, spearheading Jun’s, one of the most unique concepts in the Middle East.

Cheung’s culinary abilities are limitless as he bases his menu on his own personal adventures, which always result in unique and captivating dishes. His larger-than-life personality shines brightly across the industry, as does his down-to-earth approach and exceptional interpersonal skills. Within its first year, Jun’s firmly made its mark on the region’s culinary scene with its inventive third-culture cooking concepts, securing an array of awards and accolades, such as inclusions in Dubai’s Michelin Guide, MENA’s 50 Best Restaurants, and Gault & Millau UAE’s Best Restaurants. Fast forward to October 2023 and Kelvin has just successfully opened Little Jun’s in the Time Out Market, located in Souk Al Bahar, Downtown Dubai. Most recently, he’s What’sOn Dubai’s 2024 Chef of the Year.

Kelvin is best known for melding techniques and traditions to create diverse yet distinct cuisine, as well as for his advocacy for wellness - for his employees, diners, and the planet. Kelvin is a strong advocate for promoting diversity and empowering women in the culinary industry where he actively mentors aspiring chefs, particularly women, providing them with guidance, support, and opportunities to excel in their careers. Kelvin also focuses largely on sustainability at Jun’s, with all animal parts and vegetable scraps being fully included in a variety of main dishes and sauces. Every menu at Jun’s offers over 50% vegetarian options while being sensitive and adaptable to allergens like gluten-free and dairy-free.

Kelvin has taken part in several initiatives and partnerships over the past year, actively branching out of his role as Chef in the Jun’s kitchen. Due to the high demand for his gourmet food paired with his appealing personality, Kelvin has had the opportunity to cook for all-star NBA players at the Make-A-Wish Foundation charity gala during Abu Dhabi NBA week in Q3 2023, alongside cooking for Canadian Prime Minister, Justin Trudeau. Kelvin has just returned from his stint as a Soneva Star where he was honored to cook for the number one beach resort in the word in the Maldives as part of an initiative at Soneva Maldives Resort to raise awareness of regenerative efforts within the industry, aligning with his personal views on sustainability. These charitable and positive initiatives impact both Kelvin’s and Jun’s already-credible reputations within the industry.
